About Me

Hey y'all! I'm Lauren. I'm a SC native, a nanny (how often do you hear that?), and a lover of all things southern. That guy with the beard is my fiance and his name is Tyler. Tyler is a full time student and a nurse technician. We have been together since September 16, 2007. We are real high school sweet hearts!

Tyler asked me to marry him on December 27, 2007, but he was 16 and I was 15 at the time...so that wasn't exactly going to work! ;)

On a bench in the Battery in Charleston, SC (our place!) Tyler asked me to be his wife on September 16, 2012. The story would probably make you swoon a little, some people have even said it gave them chill bumps. But...that's for another day!

Our wedding date is set for October 18, 2014. Yes, you read that correctly. By the time we are married we will have been engaged for 2 years and 1 month, and we will have been together for SEVEN years and 1 month.

We aren't your typical couple in many ways, but what I'm here to share with you most about is how to plan a wedding AND prepare to move in together (Tyler currently lives with his parents, and I live with my grandmother) on a SERIOUS budget. I'll break it down for you.

We are planning a wedding/preparing for a home WITH:
  • Tyler graduating this May and we have no idea what his new job will be.
  • Limited funds
  • Savings that we have been scraping up over the last year and a half.
  • A budget of less than $10,000 and a guest list of 250.
You read this correctly, friends. Seems crazy, right? I would totally agree with you. However, over the last year and a half (ish), I have learned SO many tips and tricks on how to save money, pay less for things, etc. WITHOUT SACRIFICING QUALITY! Here's another breakdown for you.

I have learned how to save money by:
  • Shopping around (in many places you wouldn't suspect!)
  • Asking questions. (Don't be afraid!)
  • COUPONING.
  • Upcycling furniture.
  • Thrift store and junkyard shopping.
  • Knowing when sales are.
Want to learn more?! Then follow along with me on the final 9 months of my journey. I promise you'll learn a thing or 2!

And one more thing...if you are here because you are stressed to the max because of you upcoming wedding and you just don't know how it's going to happen...I'm here to tell you I've been there! Relax, and in the words of Truvy (Dolly Parton) of Steel Magnolias (my favorite movie, obviously)...."Smile, it increases your face value!" It will all work out in the end.
